Here’s a pic of Lucky drinking water at the bathroom sink. This is a twice a day occurrence, nowadays.

Sweet, warm Julius

Posted at 09:14:07 am

Julius is quickly becoming addicted to my SAD light. It’s this large, bright, warm fluorescent light that sits on my office table for 30-60 min every morning. He loves both the bright light and the warmth, as well as all the scritching lavished upon his warm orange fur. Must remind him of sitting in the sun.

Break-thru with Lucky

Posted at 11:20:02 am

Lucky has always allowed me to pet her, at a distance. She always stays at arms length away, because she is afraid of being picked up. Well, for some reason, yesterday, she came closer, or rather, she didn’t run away when I walked up to the sink she was sitting in, and she let me pet her. This morning, when she walked up to me to be petted, she was purring before I even touched her. She’s beginning to warm up to me. Such a sweetie pie. I know it won’t last, because I’m gonna have to take her to the vet eventually.

I slept downstairs last night, in the comfy chair, because my vertigo treatment requires I spend 36 hours in the upright position. So poor Julius was all alone last night. He’s making up for it this morning, sitting on the office table, playing with my pens, purring and generally begging for attention. If he didn’t nip my hand whenever it comes close to scratching his belly, I’d have to say he’s the sweetest boy alive.

Sweet Julius

Jules has finally climbed out of bed, and is purring right on the table next to my keyboard again. He purrs even louder when I rub his cheekbones, and the top of his head. He’s getting more gentle and sweet as he grows up.

Geektool for Mac

Posted at 12:09:26 pm

I’m geeking out right now. Just starting playing with a new software package for the Mac called “geektool". If you’re a nerd and like playing with scripts and stuff, google it! It’s sort of similar to “conky” on Linux, except it lets you easily (graphically) place the output of each command anywhere on the screen you like, and select different colors and fonts for each command output. You can also view the contents of text files (logfiles, typically) and fetch URLs or display pictures.

All this output goes on your desktop, underneath all your regular windows, so the stuff you commonly want to see is right there, all the time. No need to start software or view the desktop widgets.

I’ve got a calendar setup, ical events for the next two weeks, weather (graphic and text), and a random picture from my pics directory, which changes every 30 seconds. Very cool!

Not for the casual user, but techie nerds take note! You want geektool!

A Three Cat Night

Posted at 05:46:27 am

To get away from the divot in the mattress, I slid over to the left side last night. This left precious little space between me and the mattress edge for Jules to curl up in. Did he instead move over to my right side, where there was plenty of room? No, he just curled up closer, the little scamp. Cats are such creatures of habit.
