Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Yesterday, I gambled that the afternoon weather forecast was wrong again, and rode the motorcycle to work. Around 4pm, sitting at my desk, I heard thunder, and a couple hours later when I left, it was still pouring rain. I donned my bright yellow Frog Toggs rain pants and jacket, and hopped on the two wheeler to ride home.
It was slow going, as any drive in the Georgia rain is. Plus, if I got over 50 mph, the rain really stung when it hit my bare hands. My Sears Craftsmen leather boots are not waterproof, and got thoroughly soaked, along with my socks and lower pant legs. A little water went down my neck, but mostly I got pretty wet at the outset just walking out to the bike to retrieve the rain gear.
The parking lot at the office was a 20′ wide stream of fast moving water, and more than once on the way home, I got splashed when riding through water on the road, or got splashed by cars going the other way. My helmet face mask doesn’t seal quite right, and fogged up pretty bad several times. My reduced visibility due to the rain and fog was the worst part of the trip, really.
Not sure what I can do about the boots. I’m pretty sure any waterproof boots or boot covers would be fairly unbearable in the Georgia heat, although the rain did drop the temps from 100 down into the low 80s pretty fast. It’ll be a couple days before everything dries out, so today I’m taking the Mustang to work.
I really need to make a decision on how I’m going to sell my old Chrysler, and get started with that. I’m tempted to get the Auto Trader deluxe package, where they send someone out to take 18 photos, and they handle all the initial calls and emails, and I only get bothered when someone actually wants to come out to test drive it.
Hope you’re all having a wonderful summer!
