Rocky's Cry

Posted at 12:54:30 pm

Sweet Rocky has learned to meow to attract attention. I was sitting here at the computer, browsing the web and petting Julius, who was curled up next to the keyboard, when I heard this unfamiliar little cry. I looked down, and it was the little grey/white girl.

She probably picked it up from her half brother Max, who is becoming very vocal himself. After a little hands on action, Rocky proceeded to rub her head on my feet, purring the whole time. She’s got a nice audible purr. I hope it doesn’t go away with time. I like the sound of a purring kitty cat. It just makes me feel good.

Free computers

Posted at 11:37:14 pm

This news is for family members who read my blog only. I have a really decent PC and a Mac Mini computer going spare. If you want a free upgrade, please contact me. I am willing to ship one of these to you. You supply the monitor, USB keyboard and mouse.

The PC is a white-box 2.4 GHz dual core AMD processor, 4 GB RAM, 500 GB disk, Nvidia graphics card. It’s got a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.10 Linux installed on it, which you’re welcome to keep. If you want Windows, you have to purchase that yourself (upwards of $150, I think. Don’t know, I don’t use it). You’ll need to supply the DVI monitor. It’s a great PC. Once I got the Mac Pro, I just had no need for this box anymore.

The Mac Mini is a tiny little 2.0 GHz dual core Intel processor, 2GB RAM, 500 GB disk. It has a wireless Mac keyboard and “mighty mouse". You may prefer to replace it with a standard USB keyboard and mouse. That’s up to you. You’ll have to supply the DVI monitor. It’s a great computer. Just didn’t do what I wanted it to (multimedia center).

Let me know if you’re interested. Otherwise I’ll sell them on ebay or something.

Today I downloaded the Mac OS X iphone SDK (software development kit). I’ve got a couple of ideas for iphone applications that might be useful to myself, as well as a few other people, and since I’ve got the time (lately), I thought I’d give take the chance.

Today I also decided to subscribe to GigaNews. If you don’t know what they are, it’s hard to describe. If you do, please email/text me with your favorite newsgroups. I’m hoping to find some good japanese anime, as well as a few movies I’m interested in.

Some cats purr loudly (Spooky, Max, Echo). Some cats purr softly. Dusty’s purr is so soft, I have to lift her up to my ear to find out if she’s purring at all. Rocky was purring tonight, but I didn’t realize it at first, not that she’s THAT soft, but because Spooky was in the room, his buzzsaw grinding away. Rocky has been wandering around my legs, rubbing away, and I’ve been reaching down to pet her a lot in the past 20-30 min. It wasn’t until I reached down and picked her up that I realized she was in a very good mood.

She’s quite a unique kitty. Playful in the mornings, quite sedate most of the rest of the time. She shies away from attention most of the time, but other times she seeks it out, like now. I do have enough cats that I can tolerate one or two that aren’t as chummy as the rest, but when she starts purring, and licking my fingers, and rubbing against my leg, I really do like to reward her with some pleasant attention.

Such a good kitty cat.

Mr Cuddles and Mr Cuddles Too

Posted at 01:21:43 pm

Spooky and Max have become really really cuddly lately, since the weather cooled down. Both of them regularly climb into my arms to be held and petted quite often. Both have been curling up on my lap alongside Dusty and Echo when I’m in the comfy chair (sometimes together). And both have been keen to lie down next to me on the bed at night, although both prefer my right side, and won’t share.

I woke up this morning with Spooky completely stretched out along the right side of my body, very warm and comfortable. It was great. I didn’t want to move, because I didn’t want to disturb him. I know, I know, that’s the sign of a real devoted cat lover, one who lets the cats control his getting up. I try not to do that too often.

Max has learned to make some noise when he really wants me to pay attention to him. It’s more of a brief “mrow” than anything else, but it’s very effective. Such a big sweet wonderful goofball he is. He even let me sleep in this morning.
